Effects of net force on direction of moving object in Force – Class 8 Science Experiment

Chapter Name: Force

Activity Name: Effects of net force on direction of moving object in Force

Activity Description:

Effects of net force on direction of moving object in Force - Class 8 Science Experiment

In this experiment, you will investigate the effects of net force on the direction of a moving object by hitting a carrom coin with a striker. You will observe the changes in the direction of the coin when different individuals hit it with the striker.

Required Items:

  1. Carrom board
  2. Carrom coin
  3. Striker

Step by Step Procedure:

  1. Set up the carrom board on a flat and smooth surface.
  2. Place the carrom coin at the center of the board.
  3. Hold the striker in your hand and position it a short distance away from the carrom coin.
  4. Strike the carrom coin with the striker, aiming to hit it in a particular direction.
  5. Ask your friends to take turns and repeat the process of striking the carrom coin with the striker.

Experiment Observations:

  • Observe the direction in which the carrom coin moves when struck by different individuals.
  • Note any variations in the coin’s direction after each strike.

Precautions:

  1. Ensure that the carrom board is stable and placed on a level surface.
  2. Take care not to strike the coin too forcefully to avoid damage to the board or the coin.
  3. Ensure everyone maintains a safe distance from the striker to prevent accidents.

Lesson Learnt from Experiment:

From the observations, it can be concluded that the direction of the carrom coin changes with each strike. When the coin is hit with the striker, both the coin and the striker change their direction. This change in direction is caused by the net force applied during the collision between the striker and the coin.
