Understanding of reflection in Reflection of Light By Different Surfaces – Class 10 Science Experiment
Chapter Name: Reflection of Light By Different Surfaces
Activity Name: Understanding of reflection in Reflection of Light By Different Surfaces
Activity Description:

In this experiment, the participants will use a plane mirror strip to explore the concept of reflection of light. They will be provided with two figures: 6(a) and 6(b).
The objective is to use the mirror strip on figure 6(a) in a specific manner to observe and obtain the images shown in figure 6(b). The procedure for accomplishing this is shown in figure 6(c).
Required Items:
- Plane mirror strip
- Figures 6(a) and 6(b) (provided by the instructor)
Step by Step Procedure:
- Examine figures 6(a) and 6(b) provided by the instructor.
- Take the plane mirror strip and position it carefully on figure 6(a) in a way that you can see one of the figures from figure 6(b) in the mirror.
- Observe the reflected image in the mirror strip and identify the figure it corresponds to from figure 6(b).
- To obtain a different figure from 6(b), slightly adjust the angle or position of the mirror strip on figure 6(a) until the desired reflected image is seen.
- Repeat the process to obtain other figures from figure 6(b) using the mirror strip.
Experiment Observations:
- The participants will be able to observe and obtain multiple figures from figure 6(b) by adjusting the position of the plane mirror strip on figure 6(a).
Precautions:
- Handle the plane mirror strip with care to avoid breakage or scratches.
- Be cautious while adjusting the mirror strip to prevent any injury or damage.
Lesson Learnt from Experiment:
Through this experiment, participants will learn about the principles of reflection of light and how a plane mirror can be used to obtain reflected images. They will understand how the angle of incidence and the angle of reflection are related and how the position of the mirror affects the direction of the reflected image.
