Observe temperature and rainfall levels in Weather and Climate – Class 7 Science Experiment

Chapter Name: Weather and Climate

Activity Name: Observe temperature and rainfall levels in Weather and Climate

Activity Description:

In this experiment, we will observe the weather report, specifically the temperature and rainfall levels, of two places in our state. The data provided in the table gives the average temperature and rainfall for the last 25 years of each month for both places.

Required Items:

  1. Weather report data for Ramagundam
  2. Weather report data for Arogyavaram
  3. Table with average temperature and rainfall values for each month

Step by Step Procedure:

  1. Obtain the weather report data for Ramagundam and Arogyavaram.
  2. Examine the table to understand the average temperature and rainfall for each month at both locations.
  3. Analyze the data to answer the following questions: a) In which month was the maximum temperature recorded in each place? Provide reasons for the high temperatures. b) Determine which place experiences relatively higher temperatures overall and explain the reasons. c) Explain how Arogyavaram is cooler than Ramagundam during the summer season based on the data.

Experiment Observations:

  • The average temperature and rainfall levels for Ramagundam and Arogyavaram for each month over the last 25 years are provided in the table.
  • The maximum temperatures for each location during the year can be determined from the data.
  • A comparison between the two places in terms of temperature and rainfall patterns can be made based on the observations.

Precautions:

  1. Ensure that the weather report data used is accurate and reliable.
  2. Take into account any potential outliers or anomalies in the data.
  3. Use a sufficient number of years in the dataset to get a representative average.

Lesson Learnt from Experiment:

  • Through this experiment, students will learn how to interpret weather data, analyze temperature and rainfall patterns, and make comparisons between different locations.
  • They will understand how various factors like geographic location, proximity to water bodies, and elevation can influence local climates.
