Comparing milk and curd in Changes around us – Class 6 Science Experiment
Chapter Name: Changes around us
Activity Name: Comparing milk and curd in Changes around us
Activity Description:
In this experiment, we will compare the color, taste, state, and measurements of milk and curd. We will observe the differences between the two dairy products.
Required Items:
- Bowl
- Milk
- Curd
- Tea spoons
- Measuring instrument (e.g., measuring cup or graduated cylinder)
- Weighing scale
Step by Step Procedure:
- Take a bowl and pour some milk into it.
- Take another bowl and put some curd into it.
- Carefully compare the color of the milk and curd. Observe any differences in color.
- Take a teaspoon and taste the milk. Note down your observations regarding the taste.
- Take a separate teaspoon and taste the curd. Compare the taste of curd with that of milk. Note down your observations.
- Touch the milk with your finger and observe its state (liquid).
- Touch the curd with your finger and observe its state (semi-solid).
- Measure the level of milk in the bowl using a measuring instrument and note down the measurement.
- Weigh the bowl containing milk on a weighing scale and record the weight.
- Measure the level of curd in the bowl using a measuring instrument and note down the measurement.
- Weigh the bowl containing curd on a weighing scale and record the weight.
Experiment Observations:
- The color of milk and curd may differ slightly.
- Milk has a somewhat sweet taste, while curd can be slightly or highly sour.
- Milk is in a liquid state, whereas curd is in a semi-solid state.
- The level of milk and curd in their respective bowls can be measured.
- The weight of the milk and curd in their respective bowls can be measured.
Precautions:
- Make sure to use clean utensils and spoons to avoid contamination.
- Wash your hands before and after conducting the experiment.
- Handle the milk and curd carefully to prevent spills.
Lesson Learnt from Experiment:
- Milk and curd have different colors, tastes, and states.
- Milk is a liquid, while curd is a semi-solid.
- Curd is formed by the fermentation of milk, which gives it its sour taste and semi-solid state.
- Measuring the level and weight of substances helps in comparing and quantifying differences.
- Observation and comparison are essential scientific skills to understand changes in substances.
