Condensation in Rain – Class 6 Science Experiment

Chapter Name: Rain

Activity Name: Condensation in Rain

Activity Description:

Condensation in Rain - Class 6 Science Experiment

The experiment aims to observe the process of condensation by creating a cold surface using ice-cold water in a glass and observing the formation of water droplets on the outer surface of the glass.

The experiment highlights the concept of condensation and its occurrence in daily life.

Required Items:

  • Water
  • Glass
  • Ice cubes

Step by Step Procedure:

  1. Take a glass and fill it with water.
  2. Add a few pieces of ice cubes to the water in the glass.
  3. Observe the glass for a few minutes.

Experiment Observations:

  1. Outer surface of the glass: Small drops of water form on the outer surface of the glass.
  2. Changes observed: The glass becomes covered with water droplets.

Precautions:

  • Handle the glass and ice cubes carefully to avoid any accidents or injuries.
  • Conduct the experiment in a safe and controlled environment.
  • Adult supervision may be required, especially for young children.

Lesson Learnt from Experiment:

Through this experiment, we learn that when a cold surface (in this case, the glass with ice-cold water) comes in contact with warmer air containing water vapor, condensation occurs.

The water vapor in the air changes into liquid water droplets on the cold surface. This phenomenon of conversion of water vapor into water is known as condensation.
