Simple electric circuits in Simple electric circuits – Class 6 Science Experiment
Chapter Name: Water in our life
Activity Name: Simple electric circuits in Simple electric circuits
Activity Description:

The experiment involves creating different circuit connections using wires, a bulb, and a cell to observe whether the bulb glows or not. Four wires of different colors (blue, green, red, and yellow), each about 15 cm long, are used.
The plastic covering at both ends of each wire is removed, approximately two centimeters in length. Two wires (blue and green) are connected to a bulb, while the other two wires (red and yellow) are connected to a cell. The connections are made using cello tape or a cell holder.
Required Items:
- Four wires of different colors (blue, green, red, and yellow)
- Bulb
- Cell
- Cello tape or cell holder (made from an old inner tube of a bicycle)
Step by Step Procedure:
- Take four wires of different colors (blue, green, red, and yellow), each about 15 cm long.
- Remove about two centimeters of the plastic covering from both ends of each wire.
- Attach two wires (blue and green) to a bulb.
- Attach two wires (red and yellow) to a cell using cello tape or a cell holder.
- Make different connections using the wires as shown in Figures 4(b) to 4(g).
- For each connection, observe whether the bulb glows or not.
- Record your observations in a table.
Experiment Observations:
Connection | Does the bulb glow? |
---|---|
B | Yes |
C | No |
D | Yes |
E | No |
F | Yes |
G | No |
Precautions:
- Ensure that the wires are securely attached to the bulb and cell.
- Double-check the connections before testing each configuration.
- Handle the bulb and cell with care to avoid damage.
- Keep the experiment area clean and organized to prevent accidents.
- Follow electrical safety guidelines and do not touch exposed wires or bare ends.
- If using a cell holder, make sure it is properly secured and does not slip.
Lesson Learnt from Experiment:
The experiment helps to understand the behavior of a simple electric circuit and how different connections affect the glow of a bulb. It demonstrates the basic concepts of electrical conductivity and circuit completion.
Students can learn about the importance of proper connections and how electricity flows through a circuit to power a bulb.
