Activity Name: Connecting bulbs in parallel in Electricity Current and it’s Effects

Activity Description:

Connecting bulbs in parallel in Electricity Current and it’s Effects - Class 7 Science Experiment

The experiment aims to demonstrate the behavior of bulbs connected in parallel in an electric circuit. Three bulbs are connected in parallel to a cell, with one end of each bulb connected to one wire and the other ends connected to another wire.

When the circuit is closed, all three bulbs glow dimly, sharing the current. The experiment also explores the consequences when one of the bulbs is disconnected.

Required Items:

  1. Three bulbs
  2. Two wires
  3. A cell (battery)

Step by Step Procedure:

  1. Take three bulbs and connect their bases (one end) to one wire, forming a parallel connection.
  2. Connect the other ends of the three bulbs to the second wire, completing the parallel circuit.
  3. Connect the two wires to the terminals of the cell (battery).
  4. Observe that all three bulbs glow dimly, indicating the sharing of current in a parallel configuration.

Experiment Observations:

  • When the circuit is closed, all three bulbs glow dimly.
  • Disconnecting one bulb does not affect the glow of the remaining bulbs; they continue to light up.

Precautions:

  1. Ensure the bulbs, wires, and cell are in proper working condition before conducting the experiment.
  2. Handle the bulbs and electrical connections carefully to avoid damage or accidents.
  3. Use appropriate safety measures while dealing with electrical components.

Lesson Learnt from Experiment:

The experiment demonstrates that bulbs connected in parallel share the current flowing through the circuit. If one bulb is disconnected, the others continue to receive current and remain lit. This behavior is similar to household electric circuits, where appliances and lights connected in parallel can operate independently of each other.
