Different motions in Motion and Time – Class 7 Science Experiment

Chapter Name: Motion and Time

Activity Name: Different motions in Motion and Time

Activity Description:

Different motions in Motion and Time - Class 7 Science Experiment

In this experiment, you will observe the motion of various objects and determine whether they are in rotatory motion or not.

Additionally, you will be required to draw a line showing the axis of rotation using a pencil for the objects that exhibit rotational motion.

Required Items:

  1. Various objects with different shapes and sizes (e.g., a round ball, a book, a cylindrical container, a rectangular box, etc.)
  2. Pencil
  3. Paper or notebook for recording observations

Step by Step Procedure:

  1. Gather all the required items and set up a clear workspace.
  2. Take one object at a time and carefully examine its motion.
  3. Observe whether the object moves in a circular or rotational manner around an axis. If it does, mark it as having rotational motion.
  4. For the objects with rotational motion, take the pencil and draw a line on the paper to represent the axis of rotation. This line should pass through the center of rotation.
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all the objects, one by one.

Experiment Observations:

Object 1 (e.g., round ball): Rotatory Motion – Yes, Axis of Rotation – (Draw the line through the center of the ball) Object 2 (e.g., book): Rotatory Motion – No Object 3 (e.g., cylindrical container): Rotatory Motion – Yes, Axis of Rotation – (Draw the line through the central axis of the cylinder) Object 4 (e.g., rectangular box): Rotatory Motion – No

Precautions:

  1. Handle the objects carefully to avoid any damage or accidents during the experiment.
  2. Make sure the workspace is clear and safe to conduct the observations.
  3. Do not perform the experiment near fragile or valuable objects.

Lesson Learnt from Experiment:

Through this experiment, you will learn to differentiate between translational motion (linear motion) and rotatory motion. Additionally, you will understand how to identify the axis of rotation for objects exhibiting rotational motion.

This activity will help you grasp the concept of different types of motion and enhance your understanding of Chapter 4: Motion and Time.
