Image in mirror in Reflection of Light – Class 7 Science Experiment
Chapter Name: Reflection of Light
Activity Name: Image in mirror in Reflection of Light
Activity Description:
In this experiment, students explore the concept of images formed in mirrors. They observe their own image while moving back and forth in front of a mirror, estimate distances, and compare object sizes with their mirror images.
Required Items:
- A big mirror
- An object to place in front of the mirror (e.g., a book, toy, etc.)
Step by Step Procedure:
- Stand in front of the big mirror and observe your image.
- Step back two feet from the mirror and then step forward one foot. Observe your image while you move to and fro.
- Note any changes in the position of your image as you move.
- Estimate the distance from you to the mirror and from the mirror to your image.
- Compare the size of your image with your actual size.
- Place an object in front of the mirror and observe its image.
- Compare the size of the object with its image in the mirror.
- Determine if the size of the object and its image are the same.
Experiment Observations:
- As you move to and fro in front of the mirror, your image appears to move accordingly.
- The distance from you to the mirror is approximately the same as the distance from the mirror to your image.
- The size of your image is equal to your actual size.
- The size of the object and its image in the mirror are the same.
Precautions:
- Ensure the mirror is clean and free from any obstructions that may affect the observation.
- Be careful when stepping back and forth to avoid any accidents.
Lesson Learnt from Experiment:
- The experiment demonstrates that the size of the image formed in the mirror remains equal to the size of the object. Regardless of whether the mirror is small or big, the size of the image remains the same as the size of the object.
