Natural resources in Coal and Petroleum – Class 8 Science Experiment
Chapter Name: Coal and Petroleum
Activity Name: Natural resources in Coal and Petroleum
Activity Description:
In this activity, students will identify and classify various natural resources as either limited or abundant. The focus will be on resources related to coal and petroleum.
Required Items:
- Table-3 (a pre-prepared table with two columns: “Limited Resources” and “Abundant Resources”)
- Writing materials (pen/pencil, paper)
Step by Step Procedure:
- Begin by explaining the concept of natural resources and their importance for human civilization.
- Discuss the difference between limited and abundant resources.
- Provide examples of natural resources related to coal and petroleum.
- Ask the students to list out as many natural resources as they can think of, related to coal and petroleum.
- Instruct the students to classify each resource they listed as either “Limited” or “Abundant” and write them in Table-3 accordingly.
Experiment Observations:
The observations will be recorded in Table-3, which will include a list of natural resources related to coal and petroleum categorized as either limited or abundant.
Note down your observations in table format:

Precautions:
- Ensure that students focus on natural resources specifically related to coal and petroleum for this activity.
- Encourage students to research and verify their answers to ensure accuracy.
Lesson Learnt from Experiment:
Through this experiment, students will gain an understanding of the various natural resources associated with coal and petroleum and learn to differentiate between limited and abundant resources. They will also develop an awareness of the importance of managing and conserving finite natural resources.
